Highest and Best Environmental Practices...

The electronics industry is constantly changing and to keep pace, our best practices and standards need to evolve as well. R2v3 incorporates our experience gained from more than a decade auditing and implementing the R2 Standard and reflects changes in the electronics landscape, customer demands, and the regulatory environment.

In fact, many of the changes in R2v3 are a result of feedback submitted by customers, members of the industry, and the public. The result is an R2 Standard that’s more powerful, better reflects today’s industry dynamics, and works even harder to protect data, people and the planet, while enriching lives all around the globe.

Many of the CORE requirements in R2v3 will be familiar and remain largely unchanged…

JUST REORGANIZED OR CLARIFIED AS NEEDED TO ACHIEVE POSITIVE OUTCOMES.

HOWEVER, R2v3 IS MORE POWERFUL FROM…

Increased emphasis on reuse and protecting data…

With strengthened data security controls and enhanced controls for test, repair, and reuse operations to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the operations.

Strengthened requirements in key areas…

Based on experience and lessons learned, especially in the areas of data protection, managing the flow of material through downstream vendors, and environmental health and safety requirements. These changes are intended to reduce risk and negative outcomes while still allowing for innovation in process and methods to achieve consistent results.

Clarified Requirements and Expectations…

Recognizing there can be multiple, equally effective ways to achieve the same result, R2v3 continues to be focused on outcomes. However, R2v3 does add prescription in some areas to improve understanding and consistency of the expected outcomes.

AND, R2v3 TAKES AN ADAPTABLE APPROACH

To better reflect the specialization and diversity of facility types and the changing business models within the industry, R2v3 is reorganized into two sections – “Core Requirements” that apply to ALL R2 Certified Facilities and “Process Requirements” that apply only to facilities that perform specific processes.

WHO?

Adopting a management system is an investment for any recycling facility. Like a new, more efficient shredder, a properly implemented RIOS management system will make a facility a more efficient and consistent operator, decrease negative environmental impacts, and improve health and safety. By attacking quality, environmental issues, and health and safety using an integrated approach, your company will lower the bottom line and increase profitability.

The Recycling Industry Operating Standard™ (RIOS™) is an integrated Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System that is designed for recyclers, by recyclers. RIOS is built on the well-established Plan-Do-Check-Act model, and takes a risk based approach to addressing all QEHS risks and impacts within a recycling facility. The management system approach has been adopted by companies of all sizes, across all industries because of its effectiveness.

WHAT?

RIOS is a program that is designed to assist Recyclers across all commodities in the goals of improving their environmental and health and safety performance, while also becoming a better partner to their customers and suppliers. Whether your company is looking to benefit from RIOS as a tool for operational success, or to go through the third-party certification process, RIOS will make your recycling company stronger.

WHY?

Adopting a management system is an investment for any recycling facility. Like a new, more efficient shredder, a properly implemented RIOS management system will make a facility a more efficient and consistent operator, decrease negative environmental impacts, and improve health and safety. By attacking quality, environmental issues, and health and safety using an integrated approach, your company will lower the bottom line and increase profitability.
